I’ve been using Squarespace for a couple years to host this website. But now I have a more diverse portfolio. And, as the content I’ve needed to host has changed, I’ve found the templates, though customize-able, not capable of showing everything I need in a cohesive or compelling manner. So, I’ve set off on a quest to re-build my website from scratch.

When I began, I was familiar enough with html and CSS to know that editing settings should not be this difficult.

I sketched out some key features that weren’t possible in the Squarespace templates but I thought were relevant for me.

I prototyped this page in AdobeXD because my assets were already mostly in adobe file formats. I would use Figma next time because the animation features are more robust.

On this journey, I have recalled some prior knowledge about html. I learned about CSS and JavaScript. I learned web-design specific techniques for responsive sites. And, most importantly I learned I am not a front-end engineer.

I’ve enlisted help from one and shall have beta version of this new design working soon. I’m very excited to have what I feel as an extension of myself reflect that visually!
